The Covid-19 pandemic and

Casa Roble, San Roque Club

Helping you to stay safe and get the most out of your stay in 2020

The Covid-19 pandemic has shaken up the whole of the tourist industry. With lockdown and travel restrictions slowly easing, we are starting to see an appetite for vacations returning.

Many people, while desperate for a holiday, are tentative about booking a hotel which has shared communal spaces and facilities which pose a real challenge to safe social distancing.

You can see why they are now considering the attractive alternative of staying in a private, luxury vacation villa instead.

Whether you have already booked or are contemplating a reservation just now, here are some ways to get the most out of your stay at Casa Roble, San Roque Club at a time when social distancing is the ‘new normal’.

Complete privacy

You’ll be staying in Casa Roble on an exclusive-use basis: no strangers, no sharing. The swimming pools and jacuzzi are for you alone to enjoy. The beautiful garden grounds offer you complete privacy to relax in the company of a good book or podcast. Casa Roble is a spacious 850 sq m built property within spacious gardens. So even with a full house there’s sure to be somewhere you can find for some quiet relaxation.

Private urbanisation

If you want to venture outside the gates to stretch your legs, then remember that San Roque Club is a private urbanisation, so you should generally come into contact with fewer people than walking out of a hotel entrance onto a busy high street. And that means less social distancing.

With this in mind why not take advantage of a circular walk around the urbanisation?

Just follow the road around in either direction and you’ll end up back outside Casa Roble. Gently undulating, it’s just under two miles to get all the way around, passing the golf courses, riding stables and views over to the countryside and Mediterranean; longer if you venture down some of the cul-de-sacs.

Food & Drink

In-villa dining options

You can be totally self-sufficient when it comes to dining. For sure there are a great many restaurants in the local area offering mouth-watering cuisine but if you’d rather avoid other holidaymakers then Casa Roble offers you several in-villa dining options. You could fire up the BBQ and eat in the enclosed courtyard. Then there’s the option for inside/outside casual dining in the conservatory, or, finally, the more formal surrounds of the dining room.

Food delivery

We offer a pre-arrival grocery shopping service so you can have all your favourite dish ingredients ready and waiting. No need to go supermarket shopping if you don’t want to. Of course, if you run out of some basics you can still avoid the big supermarkets by visiting Coviran – a mini-supermarket at the San Roque Club commercial centre that’s open every day and just a couple of minutes’ drive away.

To accompany your food, satisfy your wine, beer and spirit tastes by visiting two well-known establishments in Pueblo Nuevo Guadiaro, just ten minutes away. Vinopolis Sotogrande   and Vinoteca Collada both have an online shop and offer delivery too so if you don’t want to visit in person you can choose your selections and have them delivered. You can arrange with us even to have your selections delivered prior to your arrival.

Take-away

Why not give ‘chef’ the night off and consider a take-away.

We recommend Bucintoro Italian Restaurant serving fresh pasta and pizza which again is just a couple of minutes’ drive away.

Here is a list of some of the popular restaurants, bars and chiringuitos in and around Sotogrande .

Also, check out our personal food and drink favourites.

Whilst in lockdown, some local restaurants took the initiative of offering a take-away service and /or delivery. Restaurants are generally open again for sit-in dining (albeit still with a limit on capacity), so it pays to book early and if you are unlucky getting a table, there may still be an option for takeaway or delivery.

To get a different low down on dining/takeaway/delivery options why not join a local Facebook community group and browse the posts or ask for recommendations. Here are some suggestions:

Private Chef

Why not treat yourself to a la carte dining at home one night with the help of a private chef?

Here are a couple of recommended local options:

San Roque Golf Club

The Tony Jacklin house

Whilst the main golf clubhouse is being refurbished as part of the ongoing total golf club renovation project, the ‘Tony Jacklin house’ is open for golfer check-ins and San Roque Golf Club members and guests to enjoy food and drink after their round.

This is the property directly adjacent to Casa Roble near the golf car park. It’s open to visitors too.

So why not pop out for a quiet sundowner or a lunchtime snack?

Just a two minute walk, it’s a simple and really convenient alternative to having to get in your car and drive into the village (Pueblo Nuevo Guadiaro) or down to Sotogrande Marina, and you can avoid social distancing with the public whilst you are out and about in popular areas.

As at time of writing (late June 2020) they offer Happy Hour every day from 17:00 – 19:00 serving house wine for 2€, pints for 4€, basic spirits for 5€ and cocktails for 6€. And they offer a weekly food dish plus drink deal too, such as home-made Schnitzel with fries and salad plus a glass of wine or beer for 12€.

Take a seat on their front terrace overlooking the New Course and the sea, or in the sunny garden to the rear.

Other services

Hosting

You will be met by Pauline Taylor of Property Perfect upon arrival in order to check you in to the villa. Having completed your guest forms as required by Junta de Andalucia prior to your arrival, we hope that the check in process will be as quick and smooth as possible, keeping your time spent face-to-face to a minimum.

Cleaning

Our cleaner, Anka, will be coming in to do a routine clean of bathrooms, kitchen, floors and general tidy every Thursday. She will arrive at 12 midday (she has a key) and leave at 2. She speaks some English and knows the house well. There is no cost to this and is covered under your rental.

In addition, for stays of two weeks or more, you will have a mid-stay towel and linen change which will be organised by Pauline’s team of cleaners, again at no charge. This will be arranged by Pauline prior to your arrival and the day on which it takes place will depend on your arrival day.

Her cleaners have face masks which they will use if social distancing cannot be adhered to, as per the regulations.

Knowing when to expect Anka and/or Pauline’s team means that you can choose to be out of the villa when they are due to arrive, so as to avoid contact.

Rules and regulations

It is of course your individual responsibility to understand and abide by the new rules and regulations in Spain that relate to Covid-19. Be aware, for example, that a failure to wear a face mask when required to do so will result in a penalty of up to 100 Euros.

Here is some practical information from Spain’s official tourism website for tourists during the Covid-19 crisis.

The government can put rules in place but it is everyone’s responsibility to comply, to keep maintaining our distances and to take the necessary measures to prevent spreading the disease. Let us not forget our obligation to protect not only ourselves, but others as well.

We hope this is helpful and that you have a safe and enjoyable stay at Casa Roble.
